Don’t Poke the MamaBear: Birthday Party Invitation Etiquette

Something grizzled this MamaBear last week. From the outside, it might seem small or insignificant in light of all the BIGGER worries of our world these days. However, for this Mama, this small, petty issue felt BIG. I want to preface this by saying that I never thought I would be this parent. I always thought this was the sort of silly thing I would shrug off and let slide down my back. I suppose that in a way I have done that, but believe me when I say that if not for my daughter not taking Read more [...]

I'm pretty sure I've watched the trailer for Bad Moms about 100 times since it was released a few months ago. Not only are 2 of my girl crushes in it (hello Kristen and Christina, I'm looking at you!), but it also looks completely relatable and ridiculously hilarious! I have been counting down the days until I get to see this movie, and now the premiere is less than a week away! A woman with a seemingly perfect life – a great marriage, overachieving kids, beautiful home, stunning looks Read more [...]

I've said it before, and I'll say it forever: books are sacred and special in our house. Now that she has a little brother to share her Mommy and Daddy with, story time before bed has become an even more special and important time for our daughter. It's the time that we get to cuddle in her big girl bed, snuggled under the covers and have time that's just for US. Yes, we have the classics, new and old, to choose from, but we also love to discover new and hidden gems to add to our repertoire. Little Read more [...]

An Ode to 2014

Let me just start by saying "THANK YOU". Thank you 2014 for all of your wonderful ups and downs, ins and outs, and a few upside downs. As you might remember, your predecessor 2013 was much less than kind to me at times. I was so glad to welcome you a year ago, 2014, and you did not disappoint. We started the year with a few bumps- lots of sickness and such, but that's to be expected with a toddler running around. Then, I returned to the stage for the first time in 10+ years. It was thrilling Read more [...]
All Hail King Julien!

All Hail King Julien!

On December 19th Netflix released a wacky, fun, and wonderfully colourful new original series starring the one and only King Julien. Who is King Julien? The wacky favourite lemur king from the Madagascar series, as originally voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen! You know- I like to move it move it- that guy! The show is wild and wonderfully fun. My daughter is not yet into the whole Madagascar series (though I'm sure she soon will be), so she doesn't know the characters. We did sit down to take Read more [...]

What we have here is one dad and one mom, each of us helping to raise our own two-year-olds in our own ways. Each month, we’re going to take a shot at solving some common things that tend to happen when you have a two-year-old. It’s important to remember that we are not professionals and any advice we give in our solving of problems is likely best ignored. With that in mind, we present our first ever She and He situation in which we manage a mid-sized temper tantrum. The scenario It's 4:30 Read more [...]

How to Make a Diaper Cake

How to Make a Diaper Cake

When I was huge and pregnant, my wonderful sister-in-law and mother-in-law made me the most lovely diaper cake for my baby shower. I had never seen one before, and I thought it was the absolute sweetest thing. Such a perfect gift: practical, adorable, full of love, and a beautiful centrepiece for the party! I resolved that the next chance I had, I would learn to make one, too. Luckily, my cousin is very pregnant right now, and we recently celebrated with her at her shower. I was advised Read more [...]
