Sneaking in Time for Me

Life… am I right?!

Things have been rough with some serious ups and downs this year. The highs are high and the lows have been lower than any I’ve known in my life. In between it all, regular every day life has been pulling me in every direction possible, and it’s been hard to make time for ME. That also means that some things have fallen by the wayside- like my blog. It’s been silent here recently. I know that. You know that. Unfortunately, with so much happening and so much to keep up with, some things have taken a back burner. It kills me because I feel like this is a wonderful outlet to share myself with myself and the world, but alas…

You Can't Pour from an Empty Cup

While it’s been difficult to make time for mama, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. In fact, it is a MUST. It is a daily non-negotiable for me to make time for myself, to fill my own cup. Since having my second child, that’s been my biggest life lesson. You can’t fill from an empty cup, after all! Another connected lesson has been MAKING time rather than finding time. I carve out time in my every day life for me and only me. I set my alarm at 5:30am daily so that I KNOW I can get in my work out. Yes, some days it sucks waking up at dawn, but I’ve never once regretted it after the fact. It’s quiet, peaceful time taken for me and only me, and there is no one else around or awake to ask me for anything. Silence. Ahhhhh.

I haven’t been able to set aside all the time I want to catch up on my favourite shows, but I’ve been doing my best to sneak in some time whenever I can to at least make a “dent” in my binging needs. Sometimes a good session with my fictional besties are exactly what I need to clear my head and drift off for a while. I know you know what I mean! Whipping up dinner and then getting those kids into bed is always a wrangling match, especially when Hubby is out every evening as he has been this summer with meetings, activities, sports, etc. It’s exhausting at the end of a long day, and curling up into my bed and flicking on Netflix is sometimes the best cure for tension and stress. Yes, sometimes that means folding the laundry at the same time, but at least it gets done that way!

It seems I’m not alone in this, either, by the way. According to a study from Netflix, 95% of Canadian moms long for the pre-kid days when they felt like they had more time for themselves, and 58% admit to sneaking in TV “me-time” while juggling a busy schedule, with some even hiding from their kids for just a moment of peace (guilty!). Is sneaking the new bingeing?! For me it is!

Do YOU do the #MomSneak? When/where/with which shows? Let me know in the comments below!
